Blackboard Skills Chris K. Week #3 [Or Plagiarism and Harvard Referencing]

NOTES:
– ‘wet floor sign’ entry on Wikipedia shows evidence of “dodgy” internet references. Anyone can create an entry for fun which in turn can cause a downward spiral of false information on the internet.

Peer review and its purpose is to create credible information for those doing research to refer to.

Our work will be sent to “safe assign” for class papers to check for plagiarism. There is a fine line between plagiarism and research. Research must be referenced.

How to reference a quote – (Harvard referencing): (Authors name, year of pub, and page/s taken from)

Referencing work PDF guide downloaded from infoskills link in blackboard.

Rule of thumb for referencing: the physical product should be in italics i.e. book, magazine, CD.

Paraphrasing exercise

Learned outcomes today: After going through the tutorial, I am clear on how to reference although I will keep a copy of the physical referencing booklet on hand when it is time to write papers. I get the feeling I will be referring a lot to this book in the next 3 years.
